What’s it about?
An anonymous lunatic declares himself a Duke and tries to un-secede from the British Empire. A steel town, bereft of its steel, struggles for identity as its young population melts away upriver. A university with dipping enrollment searches for a solution as it stumbles toward the millennium. Welcome to Lowland, PA. And welcome back, Elbridge Corvallis, who returns for his mother’s funeral to find his old hometown in turmoil. When a car accident traps him in Lowland, Elbridge must confront a father on the brink, a perverted landlord, a vengeful physical therapist, and the one that maybe got away in order to find his way back out of the dying Allegheny valley. Easier said than done, especially with the mysterious Duke of Ash Avenue looming over them all, and whose schemes to take Lowland back under rule of the crown might just bring the whole town down with him.
